Puzzle Tips

Start with Tip 1 and keep going until you get the guidance you’re looking for.

  • To solve this puzzle, you should be looking at the two pages in the booklet with a green grassy background. The pages show a few different groupings of white squares.

  • The flavor text describes two smooth, squat boulders. The images of the hill show squares with dotted markings. What might these both be referring to?

  • You’ll need the dice to solve this puzzle. How might you use the markings on the page inform how you’d use the dice?

  • Try placing a die on the square in the top left corner, with the number 1 facing up. What might you do next?

  • Roll the die to the right so that it sits on top of the second square. There’s a two shown on that square. What might that mean?

  • Figure out how to orient the die in the first square, so that the face-up side always matches numbers shown in subsequent squares. Keep rolling the die until you reach the question mark. What might that mean?

  • Keep track of what number appears face up in the question mark square. You’ll need it later.

  • For the second grouping of (on the bottom of the left-hand page), repeat this same pattern. Start with the number 2 face up and figure out how to manipulate the die so that the number 5 appears face up a few squares later.

  • Now onto the third grouping of die (on top of the right-hand page). In this case, not every placement of the die is shown. What might that mean?

  • You’ll need to figure out how to get the die from each spot to the next.

  • Start with the number 3 face-up and the number 1 in the back. Rolling the die down, then left doesn’t work (it results in a 5 face-up). Rolling the die left, then down works (it results in a 1 face-up). The next tip reveals how to complete this sequence.

  • To reach the 4, roll down, then left. To reach the 6, roll left, then down. Then, continue left, down, left to reach the question mark.

  • The last sequence is on the bottom of the right-hand page. It starts with a 4, then goes to a 6. Then there’s a gap before another 6. How might you go from 6 to 6?

  • From the first 6, try rolling the die up or down…

  • To get from the first 6 to the next 6, roll the die up (or down), then go left twice, then go down (or up). Finish the sequence until you reach the question mark.

  • At this point, you should have 4 numbers. How might you use those numbers?

  • Dial the numbers into the combination lock. Put them in order (from 1 to 4) of the start die for each sequence.

  • You should have gotten the following numbers for each question mark: 6, 5, 1, 2. Dial 6-5-1-2 into the combination lock.
