At-Home Surprises ✨

15 secret missions to surprise and delight

1: Bedtime Bliss

Make the bed hotel-style. Smooth the sheets, fold the blanket, fluff the pillows. Set a glass of water on the nightstand and, if you have one handy, place a mint or chocolate on their pillow. Finally, leave a handwritten note that says “sleep tight” or “sweet dreams.”

2: Fridge Fairy

Sneak into the fridge. Toss anything expired, wipe down a shelf or two, and line things up neatly. Get your partner’s favorite snack or drink and place it front and center. Finish the surprise with a handwritten note: “Cheers, from the Fridge Fairy.”

3: Operation Hydration

Pay attention to their glass of water — at meals, the water bottle they fill up before work, the glass they keep by the nightstand, etc. For the next day or so, whenever their glass is running low, fill it back up.

4: Vanishing Act

Find a nagging pile and make it disappear — mail, shoes, dishes, laundry, or random counter clutter. Slip in when your partner isn’t around. Clear it out and leave no trace. If they comment on it or ask what happened, play it cool. Smile, shrug, maybe even act a little surprised yourself.

5: Bath Bomb

{Some way to offer this. Run a bath. Bubbles or a bath bomb. Tea. A playlist or audiobook. Just tell them what time to be ready.}

6: Room Service

Here's a way to start a day with a smile.

Wake up a little before your partner and have breakfast ready for them — a cup of coffee, toast, a bagel.

Give this a whimsical flair; maybe like room service; walk into the bedroom with a tray

7: Towel Toast

If you have a dryer nearby, here's a way to put it to good use.

When your partner hops in the shower, pop a towel in the dryer. Leave it in for a few minutes on a gentle setting.

When your partner turns off the water, greet them with a hot, fluffy towel — and a big, warm hug too.

8: Send a Text

Choose one of your partner’s family or friends and send a short text expressing gratitude. For example:

  • "David, that dinner you hosted was such a highlight. I loved meeting your friends and finally tasting your famous chocolate chip cookies."

  • "Maria! Every time we see you, I feel like I walk away lighter and laughing — you’ve got that effect on people. Just wanted to say I’m really glad you’re part of our world."

9: Phone Whisperer

Some tasks loom not because they’re hard—but because they require a phone call.

Your mission: Offer to make one phone call your partner has been avoiding. A friend or family member they've been avoiding. A call with customer service.

You can say: "LOREM IPSUM"

Get the details (who to call, what needs to happen, any key info). Make the call on their behalf — or with them sitting nearby for moral support. Handle hold music, menus, and small talk with grace.

10: Limousine

If you have a car, get it cleaned and serviced. Check the tire pressure. Fill the tank. Tuck a small note in a seat pocket or in the glove compartment. Tuck one of their favorite drinks or snacks on their seat too.

11: Errand Sidekick

When they mention a boring errand, offer to come along. You’re not helping. You’re keeping them company.

12: Early Bird

For any plans you have the next few days, make an internal commitment to arrive 5-10 minutes early.

If you say you're leaving the house at a certain time, be ready to go 5 minutes before.

If you're meeting somewhere at a certain time, get there 5-10 minutes early.

If you tend to run late, leave 15-20 minutes earlier than you think you need to. Then, when you arrive, just breathe and chill. Don't rush them or stress them or guilt them. Just enjoy being early — because you care.

13: Michelin Star

Whenever you're next cooking or eating together, light a candle, refill their drink, clear their plate without comment.

14: Power Hour

Offer your partner one focused hour of help with whatever’s been weighing on them.

Keep it casual and pressure-free: “Hey—do you want to do a power hour sometime this week and knock a few things out together?”

Or "If you made a short list of things that would feel like a huge relief, I’d love to help with a few."

Set a timer for 60 minutes. Make a drink or put on music. Ask: “What would feel most relieving to tackle?”

15: Eagle Eyes

Let's see how well you can notice. Find at least one thing your partner does that you might have started to take for granted.

Maybe they put the kids to sleep, lock the door at night, do the dishes, talk to the dog in a silly voice, or always ask you how your day was.

See if there's something that you've become less attuned to because it happens so often. Then, stop and thank them for it.
